As the digital economy collects a growing amount of data about our health, our purchases, our finances, our friendships and our movements, personal data is set to become the new asset class according to the World Economic Forum. Which companies will come out ahead when it comes to aggregating, analysing and monetizing the increasing volume of personal data that exists about each one of us?
With the E.U.’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)’s data portability clause applying to all EU member states from May 2018, Tuomas’ presentation will examine how consumers themselves are rising to the challenge of managing and monetising their personal data sets. This includes exploring the new companies - the personal data brokers - that have sprung up to help consumers to do just that.

From quantified health, to quantified wealth: New personal data-driven services helping consumers to hack into their habits and gain real-time actionable insight into their behaviour in different areas, from personal finance to relationships, to leisure.
Increased gamification: Brands who make can make personal data fun rather than dry with self-discovery quizzes and tools that help consumers use their data to take more control over their lives, are likely to be ahead of the pack. Chatbot enabled personal finance apps are already busy putting the fun into finance.
Innovative, unusual partnerships between brands who have the vision collaborate with other brands in different areas, to pool customers’ data sets and create fresh, new services for consumers. What would happen if consumers started driving these collaborations? For example, ordering their local fitness centre to share data about their number of visits with the online supermarket where they shop every week and with their GP, to come up with a personalised fitness plan.
